Why You And Your Family Should Be Using A Flouride Free Mouthwash

By Kimberly Kennedy

People are constantly exposed to a number of potentially toxic agents each and every day. One of these is surprisingly found right within common oral care products. Fluoride is thought to support tooth and bone health but this naturally-occurring mineral may be more detrimental than beneficial. This is especially true if this toxic substance is swallowed in any significant amount. Following are some good reasons to consider switching to a flouride free mouthwash.

When reading the instructions on toothpastes or other products that contain this mineral, you will be advised against swallowing even a small amount of the associated products. As such, children under six are often advised to brush under adult supervision. The fluoride found within these solutions acts as a an actual poison once it enters the body.

While there are some benefits that fluoride does provide, this mineral does not have to be ingested or used topically to gain them. This is hardly the common course of public thought given that this mineral is present within municipal water supplies. The decision to add this mineral to communal water supplies is a greatly contested one. A number of countries have actually banned this practice altogether.

Many consumers are not aware that other countries have banned this practice. Recent scientific evidence has shown that consumption and direct application of fluoride are hardly beneficial to human health. After this has been applied to the teeth in any way, it is quickly absorbed by the soft tissues and the porous tooth structures. This is something worth considering when establishing an oral care plan for your children.

Direct application and consumption are not advised. As per research, copious amounts of this mineral can actually alter bone density and brain density. There are even studies showing that the pinneal gland will become calcified after a significant amount of time and exposure. These are just a few of the reasons that have been cited by several countries when banning the addition of fluoride in their water supplies.

An additional point to note is that this mineral is capable of sealing the teeth, which could be a protective effect. While this might seem like a positive thing in terms of being able to keep invading and harmful organisms out, it is not in line with the goal of ultimate tooth health. Once these porous structures have been sealed, important nutrients that can actually help rebuild them will become blocked out also.

Choosing to use mouthwashes and toothpastes that do not contain this potentially harmful agent is an incredibly wise decision that will benefit your entire family. There are many other cleaning products that are far more effective and a whole lot safer. After having made this change, you will have far fewer toxins that you are regularly being exposed to.

You will probably have to pay a bit more to get oral care products that do not contain this common addition. This additional spending, however, will prove more than worthwhile given that the likelihood of both cavities and overall health issues will decrease. This is a transition with benefits that clearly outweigh the related drawbacks.
