How To Achieve A Good Connection Using A High End Speaker Wire

By Henry Thompson

Majority of the speakers that are bought from the stores do not come along with speaker wires. Individuals are therefore required to have an idea on the kind of wires available in the market and how they function. The right kind of high end speaker wire should therefore have the standard thickness and be able to fit well into the system.

These wires can either come along with connectors or may have none at all. When there is need for an outdoor connection, it is necessary to purchase wires that are fitted to be buried directly into the ground. On the other hand, for the speakers that are to be located within the house ceiling or walls are required to be UL-rated and should be labelled either CL2 or CL3.

Wires have varying thickness and they are rated using the American Wire Gauge values which are inscribed on the wires. These values for instance may range between twelve and eighteen to display thickness. A lower value of gauge means that the cable is thicker in size. This further means that the resistance to the flow of current becomes less.

Based on the functions that are to get handled, several sizes of wires are used during connection. Thicker lines are used in instances where the applications portray high power or to have long runs. Thinner lines with high gauge values are however used when the applications require shorter runs. This therefore eases work and is considered cost effective.

In order to determine the amount cable that is needed, a string is used to measure the space between the receiver and the place where the speakers are to be located. Once that is complete, the length of string is measured and for easier connection an extra value is added to the measured one. Therefore, any error during measurement is done away with.

The wires are to be fixed inside a wall often come along with either two or four conductors. The four conductor one only requires a single cable to connect the receiver with the volume controller found within the wall of a different room. A two conductor cable can then be used in connecting the several speakers within that room to the volume controller. Speakers that are rated as stereo-inputs also function well with four conductor cables.

In addition, having a good connection of speakers can be achieved through rightly connecting the positive and negative leads found in the speakers and receiver. If the negatives and positives are wrongly connected, then the sound produced would not be of good quality. It is advisable to use line strippers so as to avoid any bare strands that may result to short circuiting.

The terminals of the speaker wires are also a vital part that should not be ignored. Speakers contain two different terminals are known as spring clips and binding posts. The spring clips are the easiest to use since they accept both the pin connectors and the bare wires. However binding posts are better when there is need for a solid connection.
