Design Your Own Custom Hunting Knives Texas

By Christopher Young

Any sporting goods store has a ton of different hunting weapons to buy, from rifles to bows and arrows. But the one weapon that every hunter needs, no matter what their primary weapon of choice is, is a knife. Instead of settling for a mass produced one that you purchased at the store, you can instead get custom hunting knives Texas made just for you.

The style of body is the first big decision out of several you will have to make in order to get your own custom knife built. There are two main body styles, folding and static. The folding version is where the blade folds into the handle, making it very small and easy to throw into your pocket or vest. The other style, static, has no folding ability, so it usually goes into a sheath on your belt. Both are great for protection, or skinning animals.

After you decide whether to go for a folding or static knife, you then have to decide how long you want the blade to be. You can go very small, or much larger, depending on what your needs are. The length will help determine the final cost, so keep that in mind as well. The longer the blade, the more material needs to be used, and the higher the cost.

After choosing your blade length, you need to decide what you want that blade to be made out of. Most knives are made out of some sort of metal, though ceramic or even bone might be available as well. Many go with stainless steel because it is cost effective, lightweight, and does not rust. This makes it durable and tough. However, carbon steel is also a popular choice.

Then you must choose how long you want the handle to be. For folding knives, the length is usually determined by the blade length, but for static ones, you have some wiggle room. It needs to be big enough to fit comfortably in the palm of the hand of the user, so keep that in mind as well.

Staying with the handle, the size is not the only thing you need to decide on. You will also want to choose a color or pattern to go on it, as well as what kind of material. Wood and metal are the most common, but a good handle can be made using all kinds of things, even lightweight plastic or the bones of an animal if you want to get really fancy about the finished product.

You can also have the handle or blade inscribed if you desire. This is a great idea for when you give it as a gift, because personalized gifts are extra thoughtful in the eyes of most people. Some people choose a name, or a short message or quote from their favorite book, but you can put anything as long as it fits.

You can place the order once these decisions are made, or you can go a bit further and buy a cover or sheath for the knife as well. A few decisions must be made for this, such as colors and what material to use. The most popular is leather due to its softness and durability. But you can also get metal, plastic, or even canvas instead. Just ask your knifemaker for help.
