Concrete Pumping Can Be Utilized In Most Construction Projects

By Serena Price

The construction industry uses a process called concrete pumping to allow them to apply the material in places that would otherwise be difficult to access. This could be anything from a very tall building to a mine-shaft. The most used types of these pumps are boom trucks and line pumps. There are other models available, but these are rarely seen and are used in environments which are difficult to access.

Boom trucks comes as a self-contained unit. A pump and frame is mounted upon either a twin, or multi-axle vehicle. These are very easy to position in the tightest of spaces, where these are giving the best access to the target location. Once the vehicle is in position, the remote-controlled arm on the vehicle moves for pump into position. These are generally used on larger projects in the building industry.

The other option is a line pump, sometimes known as a trailer mounted pump. These are extremely portable, therefore making them adaptable for use in difficult situations. They come in various different sizes, smaller ones being used for low-volume tasks such as grouting, whilst the larger models are used on the larger structural jobs. Their design is simple, using a ball valve and flexible hosing, making them easy to maintain.

If you are working on a project where access is difficult, such as a tunnel or mine-shaft, there are other models available. This is where you need pumps that are skid or rail-mounted. Though not being used very often, they play an important role in the construction industry.

There are many advantages to concrete pumping. It has been found to be a very cost-effective method because the material can be applied precisely where it is wanted. Once the pump has been put into position, there is no need for it to be moved. This cuts down the risk of damage to the equipment, and more importantly, injury to the site personnel.

Time is saved in a lot of the processes of applying the mixture when using these methods. Concrete pumping eliminates the problems of mixing the material in one area of the construction site, and then transporting it to the applicator. These pumps can do the mixing and the transportation. This eliminates the need for having a separate truck carrying concrete to wherever the pump is located.

In general construction sites are very muddy places, so any reduction in the number of vehicles used can be beneficial. A major factor to bear in mind is the increased safety of the workers on the site, due to the vehicles being difficult to control. There is also a reduction in time lost when a vehicle gets stuck in the mud and has to be pulled out.

Using concrete pumping methods is advantageous to most sectors of the construction industry. The time and money saved on manpower, and the number of vehicles required can reduce the overall cost of any project. The site becomes a much safer, cleaner and efficient place to operate, and the reduction in the number of trucks going to and from it can only improve the relations with the local population.
