A Guide To What You Can Do With Stainless Machine Screws

By Jocelyn Davidson

Screws have been in existence for quite a long time now. Ever since the discovery of the Archimedes Screw back in the 7th Century and its remarkable ability to lift water, stainless machine screws have tremendously outgrown their uses. Over the last century, these fasteners have found a special place in the industrial world and especially the construction and automobile industry. In this case, it is very common to see bolts being used in virtually all basic fastenings and drilling operations.

In examining the key uses and specifically stainless fasteners, first it is important to realize where they are used in large scale application and in this case the construction and the automobile industry. In the construction industry, fasteners are used to fasten and to hold structures together. For instance, these bolts are used to hold down electrical equipment such as air conditioners and fans as well as TV screen stands and chandeliers.

The screw vary in size and shape depending on their use. The round head slot, countersunk, cheese head and the pan head slot are the most commonly used machine screw. The use of the screw is determined by its type which is further determined by the shape and size. When working on wood and a seamless fastening is desired as an end result, the countersunk head slot screw is used. Screw does not leave any bulging spaces when it goes into the wood, it leaves a seamless surface.

There are a significant number of fasteners in use today but the most common fall under two main categories the flat heads and the round heads. In this case, some widespread fasteners in use today include the countersunk, cheese head, pan head slot, round head slot among others. For instance the countersunk head slot screw is common with securing hinges in place as it drills all the way into the wood or metal as the head rests flat leaving no protruding surfaces.

Binding or fastening is the most common use of fasteners. As mentioned above, the bolts are used for a number of household applications. However, not all bolts fit the same application. Likewise, not all screws are made from the same material. Nevertheless, despite the material and structural differences between them, the most preferred are stainless machine fasteners.

To install bathtubs and water taps, steel screw is used to fasten such structures. This is because of yet another advantage of steel: it's very durable and does not need replacements every now and then.

Drilling is yet another use of fasteners apart from fastening things together. It is imperative to note that virtually all drills use screws as the key component for making holes. In this case, drill heads such as the ones found in common rotary drills are usually derived from basic screw characteristics. In addition, while some of these drills use high-end material such as Titanium and Cobalt, a good number use stainless machine fasteners. In this regard, apart from the strength, steel fasteners are also affordable and easily accessible.

Apart from mainstream drilling, simple fasteners are also used to puncture small holes in walls. In this case, such screws are commonly used to make mounting holes for picture frames, wall mountings for TV sets and light bulbs among other uses. Similarly, such fasteners are also used to plug small holes prior to plastering a house or simply just hiding a gaping hole in a hose.
