How A Private Investigator Gain Success With Surveillance

By Elsa Noel

Surveillance is an important part of uncovering the truth. This is commonly used by not only the police but by investigators as well. A private investigator Vancouver BC, in particular, will have to learn through trial and error how to make surveillance successful. To make things a bit easier, here are some tips that can be followed.

First, you should gather as much information as you can possibly manage out of your client upfront. Before you accept any task from your client, you should try to obtain information from the client to have an idea on what this task is all about. During the first conversation, do not just settle with asking the client the subject's name, address, and age.

You need to pay attention to what vehicle you will use for the said surveillance. Because it is a surveillance, the car should blend in with the surroundings. If you are in a high-class area, then your car should not be a pathetic piece of junk. It just makes it stand out. That, then, defeats the purpose of surveillance.

There should be a pre-surveillance check. No matter how much you are in the red with your account, you should make sure to do a pre-surveillance check so that you can provide quality work. Pre-surveillance check involves driving around the subject's house to see if the information one got from the client is accurate.

Speaking of stake out, you have to plan properly how you will set it up. You need to find a good position where you should be able to observe your subject at a safe distance, without arousing the suspicions of the subject or the people around the subject. You have to make yourself, along with your car, less noticeable.

Holding back the call of nature might be a bad thing. However, that does not mean that this is your break time from surveillance. Since call of nature is inevitable during stakeouts, then it is highly recommended to bring a portable toilet with you. If not that, then a partner to change shifts with should do then.

Surveillance requires you to have the right observation skills. You will not get very far in the surveillance world if you do not have excellent powers of observation. When it comes to observation, you do not only observe the subject but the surroundings as well as the people involved with the subject too.

Your camera is your best tool. That is why you have to make sure that it is always steady. You need to stabilize your shots so that you can easily show the images to your clients, after all. There should be lots of software out there that can help you steady your shots. You can also use monopods or tripods here.

Following a car requires you to know what the safest distance from the subject should be. When the traffic is heavy, you can get close to the subject. When it is less, then it is fine to set a bit of a distance. Also, you need to be aware of some unique characteristics of the subject's car so that you do not easily lose it on the road.
