Google Wallet Wants To Be Your Only Wallet

By Cornelius Nunev

Now that Google Wallet is here, is a normal wallet even required? Pay without cash or credit card in hand, securely and safely.

Google Wallet - A setup primer

To begin, go to the Google Wallet site to set up an account. Then, download the Google Wallet application to your compatible mobile phone. Connection your credit and debit cards to the account, and designate a preferred card. Then you can use Google Wallet to pay at stores where hardware that can accept digital wallet payments is present.

Phone buys

A virtual MasterCard account number is given to anybody who uses Google Wallet, and generally that is the number that is charged. Occasionally, when used offline, the preferred card is charged later instead, but usually the master number is used. You can connection any card you would like to your account from any card manufacturer. When you make an online purchase, you choose the preferred card you need right then and there.

The benefits of using a virtual account number are obvious. Chief among them is preventing thieves from capturing your actual account information. As the info on connected cards is stored online instead of within the mobile phone, if the phone is lost or stolen, it's easy to deactivate Google Wallet and wipe the app remotely.

Leaving without your charge card

Though you still need your wallet for things such as driver's licenses, you might be able to keep away from all credit and debit cards on your person. Rather than carrying around cash and cards, you can just take your phone with you. Use Google Wallet rather than carrying around a chunk of plastic to pay for things. It will not be long before your driver's license is digitized and you also will not need other things anymore anyway.
